When I work in clay, my personal aesthetic compels me to let the inherent nature of the materials shine through. Colour and texture of clay, torn edges, and a twig drawn in line are all manifestations of the source, and are, I believe, critical in linking me as a creation and a creator to the primal forces of nature.
When I paint, I work with the subject in front of me yet I paint from the inside out, so that much of the meaning comes from within me. I feel a sense of freedom in my mind, heart, and soul that flows into the sweep of my arm as I create. I work to an internal rhythm, an ebb and flow of taking in and giving out that defines my relationship to the world.
